Jane’s Journey to End as Drop Dead’s Sixth Season Announced to Be its Last

Image
Jane’s long journey will finally come to a close when Drop Dead Diva’s current season ends, it was revealed today. The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Lifetime’s long-running romantic comedy drama about a ditzy wanna-be model who finds herself reincarnated in the body of a mentally astute plus size lawyer (Brooke Elliott) will end when the series completes its current season. The show, which touched on themes of reincarnation, love and the quest to find meaning in life, resonated with fans worldwide and received multiple GLAAD awards during its run. Despite wrangles with Lifetime over a more cost-effective financial model, the show was resurrected after a cancellation scare and returned for a successful fifth season last year. However, in a bid to shake up its programming structure, the Network has picked up two new dramas to series in Un-Real and The Lottery, both of which will join Devious Maids and Witches of East End on the network’s scripted roster. Beyonce + Obama Having an Affair According to Legit French Paper

Image
In totally untrue news that legitimate publications are reporting anyway, France’s second largest newspaper le Figaro is claiming that President Obama is having an affair with Beyonce. Ummm. Okay. The rumors started in France based on remarks made by paparazzo Pascal Rostain, who claimed in an interview (albeit a translated one): You know, at this time, the United States, there is something big that is happening. Anyway, it’ll go out tomorrow in the Washington Post—we cannot say that it is the gutter press—[a story about] an alleged affair between President Barack Obama and Beyoncé. I can assure you that the world will be talking about it. Of course the only thing the Post has picked up today about Obama is a meeting between him and the French President François Hollande (who is visiting the US), so maybe something has been lost in translation. Or maybe President Obama and President François Hollande is our new favorite OTP! The Post later explained away rumors that they...

Neither will find their chosen task an easy one; this is Banshee after all, the town where everyone is economical about the truth at best and downright lies the rest of the time! Just as Jason’s new identity is finalised and he is finally free to move on and start a new life for himself his past catches up with him in the shape of Quentin, a no nonsense, hard hitting Brit who’s not going to leave until he has what he’s come to town for. Once Lucas finally gets some resemblance of the truth out of Jason about what he is after he meets up with Quentin to strike a bargain. Welsh actor Andrew Howard is a fantastic guest star this week, bringing a Guy Ritchie feel to some of the fights scenes, and a real men...

Elementary 2x15 - Corpse de Ballet - Review

Image
This week's Elementary found Holmes and Watson each on their own trajectory in solving two mysteries: while Sherlock tacked the case of a murdered ballerina, Joan was more focused on tracking down a homeless man who had gone missing. We opened on a typical "morning after" scene at the brownstone, with Watson standing at the ready with a to-go coffee cup for Holmes' latest conquest.  In a rather awkward-seeming routine, Joan provided the beverage for Holmes' lady friend, along with some advice on not taking her speedy dismissal personally.  The quirky dynamic between the roommates is emphasized by the weirdness of Holmes parading these women in and out of the apartment while Watson facilitates their departure and later discusses his proclivities in a bemused manner.  There's an undercurrent of discomfort in her most frank and seemingly unoffended appraisals of Holmes' carousing.  Is she perhaps trying too hard to seem unfazed by Holmes' habits?  ...

Supernatural 9x13 - Discussion: The Problems with Saving Each Other

Image
For the first time this season, I was relieved and excited to get what I expected to be a fun standalone episode. But while watching The Purge, Sam and Dean’s visit to the world of weightloss resorts, two thoughts came to mind: 1. Sam and Dean just aren’t as much fun when they’re fighting 2. We’ve seen this split before, and it didn’t start with Carver I’m going to break from my usual format for this review, and instead of analyzing the details of this episode that no one cares about, I’m going to focus mostly on these two thoughts. # 1 – This isn’t fun “Haven't you ever been in a relationship where you really love somebody and still kinda wanted to bash their head in?” (Sex & Violence) Sam and Dean have issues. I think there are two levels to what we’re seeing here – the emotional fallout from a betrayal of trust, and a fundamental difference in philosophy (which I’ll dig into in the second section). But first, I want to address the emotional part. Despite...

Supernatural 9x13 – The Gripe Review

Image
Oh Supernatural, how you make things hard for me. Just as I think I have an easy review for the week – a harmless one-off episode everyone would enjoy and barely remember after – you shoot a torpedo in the last scene and flip the ocean liner upside down. By now every reviewer and his/her Rottweiler must have chewed and spat out those last three minutes several times. People have discussed it more than they have discussed the theory of evolution. I’ve seen a few of those reviews and discussions and it’s like the rest of the episode doesn’t even exist. Not in this sandbox. There was an entire episode attached to that last bit and, as God is my witness, I’m going to talk about it, because this is The Gripe Review and no writer is getting away with subpar delivery just because they blew up the cargo at the end. I’m going to talk about the tag too, but only after I listed the gripes related to the episode, even though I have the temptation to do what many have done and go straight to ...
