CBS Picks Up ‘Big Bang Theory’-Style Drama
CBS has picked up a drama pilot that is basically described as being a dramatic version of The Big Bang Theory.
The series, under the working title Scorpion, centers on “a group of eccentric geniuses,” except this group of nerds isn’t going to be debating Star Wars and whether Indiana Jones actually had an effect on Raiders of the Lost Ark. This group tackles world problems and modern threats.
The story for the series is loosely based on the life of producer Walter O’Brien, who had the fourth-highest documented IQ, and went on to recruit the greatest minds in the world to his company, not just to solve the world’s problems but also to teach each other how to fit in and live in a modern world that doesn’t always privilege intellect.
Scorpion comes from producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Sleepy Hollow), alongside O’Brien, Heather Kadin, Danny Rose, and Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, of all people. Nick Santora (Prison Break) will script the pilot for director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6), a huge get for CBS.
