Jay-Z is just “Jay Z” now

Get the dash out!

AV Club reports that Jay-Z has now officially become Jay Z, dropping the hyphen that’s been riding shotgun with him on his journey from the streets of Brooklyn to the Iron Throne of the entertainment business. The rapper was first listed as “Jay Z” in the liner notes for 2011’s Watch The Throne, but the change hadn’t become publicized until only recently, when his name was officially changed on iTunes, which gained notice when his sales began popping up on Billboard under the new punctuation. The publication received official confirmation of the change directly from the rapper’s label.

So I suppose you’re now free to call him Mr. Z. As for all the others who never spelled it with a hyphen because they just didn’t realize the name had one, carry on.
